CoreCon’s Medic and The Pickle Juice Incident

The Inner Core team wants to share what they love about Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, and Anime with like-minded fans. That’s why CoreCon was started ten years ago. We want to let everyone have a space where they can really let their nerd flag fly and have an unlimited amount of fun. [Disclaimer: Fun supplies may be limited. Get yours now while supplies last.] You can’t have fun without safety (supposedly), so we have several teams who work hard to do all the serious stuff behind-the-scenes and keep you out of harm’s way! This blog will cover the first department: Medical.

CoreCon is very lucky to have a certified EMT volunteering to help keep CoreCon’s fans safe. From falls, cuts, dizzy spells and “The Pickle Juice Incident,” our medic has seen many things at CoreCon. (Oh. Sorry. You want to know what “The Pickle Juice Incident” was? I guess you’ll have to keep reading until we tell you!)

Every year, our medic deals with people feeling weak and woozy. Some enjoy all of the activities at CoreCon so much, they forget to eat, sleep, and stay hydrated. Others who aren’t practical in their alcohol consumption pass their limits and need attention. Sometimes, it’s a serious medical concern. Our medic is trained in the proper responses to identify each of these issues as well as many others.

Something as small as a paper cut can be handled by the Operations team. For more serious things, we call our medic. To help you understand what a medical emergency is, we would like to remind you how the very smart Gallant and the not-so-smart Goofus handle certain situations:

  • Gallant calls for a medic when he chops vegetables and deeply cuts his hand.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he folds paper and gets a paper cut.
  • Gallant calls for a medic when he gets hit by debris from a falling building.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he drops something.
  • Gallant calls for a medic when he can’t understand the language he is speaking.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he can’t understand a language different from his own.
  • Gallant calls for a medic when he gets stepped on by a Mech.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he doesn’t enjoy the movie “Step Up.”
  • Gallant calls for a medic when he drinks too much beer and can’t take care of himself.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he drinks tea that is slightly too hot.
  • Gallant calls for a medic when he falls into a monster footprint.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he falls and hurts his ego.
  • Gallant calls for a medic when he loses consciousness.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he is a little tired.
  • Gallant calls for a medic when he is sweaty and hot for no apparent reason.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he stays out in the sun for too long and gets a minor sunburn.
  • Gallant calls for a medic when he has sudden pains in his chest.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he has a strange itch.
  • Gallant calls for a medic when he breaks everything in his body.
  • Goofus calls for a medic when he breaks everything he touches.

And now, The Pickle Juice Incident:

One year, the Teen Room had a pickle juice drinking contest. Some of you may be thinking that is not the smartest possible thing, but we are all older and wiser than we were when we were teens. After the contest, someone was feeling incredibly sick, which might be expected when you drink a crazy amount of vinegar and brine. Our medic knew exactly what to do, despite this specific incident not being covered in his medical textbooks. He helped immensely.

So rest assured when you go to Fargo CoreCon: Return of the Heroes Revenge of the Villains, we will do everything in our super powers to have your back.

Check out blogs from the rest of the CoreCon Justice Team when they are published! We will have one for each team that works to keep you extra safe: Medical, Security, Operations, and Accessibility.
